AIARE Avalanche Level 1 Course Itinerary

Thursday, February 8: 5:30-9pm — Online Classroom Session
Reviewing avalanche basics, group decision making, trip planning, and gear overview.

Friday, February 9: 5:30-9pm — Online Classroom Session
Continuation of avalanche basics, group decision making, trip planning, and gear overview review

Saturday, February 10: 8AM-5:30PM — In the Field
Participants will meet at IMG HQ at 8am packed and ready to head out into the field. IMG will provide transportation to Paradise (Mt. Rainier National Park). The focus of the day will be snowpack observations, matching snowpack observations to avalanche problems, and practicing avalanche rescue techniques. The team will descend back to Paradise and take the van back to Ashford to arrive back around 5:30pm.

Sunday, February 11: 8AM-5PM — In the Field
Participants will meet at IMG HQ at 8am packed and ready to head into the field. IMG will provide transportation to Paradise (Mt. Rainier National Park). The focus of the day will be travel techniques in avalanche terrain, group decision making in avalanche terrain, and snowpack observations. The team will return back to Ashford around 5pm for an end-of-program debrief.
