Help with Travel and Cancellation Insurance

All* Participants are required to obtain Travel Insurance that includes coverage for Emergency Medical Evacuation, Repatriation and Emergency Medical Expenses for the duration of their Selected Program. Optional Trip Cancellation Insurance is strongly advised as all fees are 100% non-refundable, and non-transferable. Unexpected life events occur which may cause you to cancel from your Selected Program and your travel plans. A Trip Cancellation upgrade to your policy may be your avenue to recover fees if you cancel for covered reasons.

* The Travel Insurance requirement does not apply to Participants on IMG Selected Programs within the contiguous USA, but is strongly advised.

To Consider:

  • Read the fine print and understand the details of your individual Travel Insurance policy. Travel Insurance options and coverage may be defined by your state or country of residence, destination and activities.
  • Your policy should cover the duration of your Selected Program itinerary (including contingency days) plus travel days to/from your place of residence.
  • Your policy must include coverage for the activities and gear usage specific to your Selected Program (guided mountaineering or trekking, high altitude, use of technical gear, etc. For example, Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp are considered "trekking" because no technical equipment is required. If crampons, ice axe, ropes are used then the Selected Program is considered "climbing").
  • Some IMG Programs may have specific insurance requirements — refer to Program materials or contact our office if you have questions.
  • A "Cancel for Any Reason" policy is time-sensitive and must be purchased within the Provider's defined timeline. CFAR policies limit coverage to up to 75% of insured trip costs.

Cost of Insurance: You can generate coverage and price quotes by accessing the links in the list of Providers below. You may choose to purchase a policy directly from the quote, or you can contact the provider's call center and purchase over the phone. We strongly advise that you insure the cost of your trip.

Providers: Below are some Travel Insurance Providers that may offer appropriate coverage for your Selected Program. This is not an exhaustive list — you may wish to conduct an online search for other providers that offer similar coverage and also meet IMG's requirements for your Program.
