Grey Glacier (Tye Chapman)

Boat ride today, checking out the fjords and the glaciers.  Last night of the trip tonight in Natales.  The crew then takes a private van to Punta tomorrow and will be catching flights tomorrow evening to Santiago and connecting with flights home.  After dinner and a final night out in Natales, it’ll be a wrap.

Cave Touring

February 19, 2013

Tye checked in from Puerto Natales.  Taking advantage of the good weather, the team took a day hike to view the Milodon cave, a natural monument of Torres del Paine National Park.

Cool caves and a great day hike (Tye Chapman)

If the weather holds up, the plan tomorrow is to take a boat to the Serrano glacier inside Bernardo O’Higgins National Park via the Seno Ultima Esperanza fjord.

“Long but great day from Cuernos to the French Valley and onto Paine Grande.  Then it was a catamaran ride across Lake Pehoe.  Late dinner and an early call time in the morning for the hike up to the Mt. Ferrier lookout before a boat ride to Refugio Grey.

Everybody is all smiles. ”

Team Checks In From Patagonia

Blue skies on the trek (Tye Chapman)

Short and simple from Tye today – “Blue skies and sunshine as we watched a group of 10 condor fly overhead.  Makes for an incredible day of trekking.”

Just A Walk In The Park

Los Cuernos over Lake Pehoe (Tye Chapman)

Tye called in from Patagonia this afternoon.  A little drizzle for an hour or so in the morning and then the skies cleared.  Good views of Los Cuernos and a relatively easy day of walking.  They’re lakeside now, at the Refugio Los Cuernos this afternoon just enjoying Patagonia and life in general.

Damp But Not Defeated

February 15, 2013

Along Lake Nordenskjold (Tye Chapman)

Tye and team got a bit ‘damp’ yesterday.  It is Patagonia, right?  Longer walking day yesterday as they explored up towards the head of the Silence Valley.  The gang did well but no one was upset after they accomplished the goal and spent a warm, dry night back at the Refugio.

They give the legs a rest today, relatively speaking, with a hike alongside Lake Nordenskjold and the night spent at Refugio Los Cuernos.  Nice.

Patagonia Team Taking In The Views

February 13, 2013

Tye Chapman called in today from Patagonia.  The first day on the trail for the team saw them walking up for their first view of Torres del Paine.  Tye said a bit of low fog made for some ‘eerie’ views.  Impressive, to say the least.  Tonight is at the Refugio Chileno.  Tomorrow’s the Silence Valley.

All is well.

Patagonia Team Arrives In Punta Arenas

La Luna in Punta

February 12, 2013

Tye Chapman reports in from Punta last night that all members of the party are ‘present and accounted for’.  Always a good excuse to go have dinner with our friends at La Luna restaurant in Punta.  It never disappoints.   With a team of 10, that’s no small feat, especially with the storms which have plagued the east coast.  Puerto Natales is the project for today with a peek at penguins on the way.

See You At LAX Greg

February 8, 2013

Tye and Greg discuss the escape route at Tye's wedding. Also pictured is IMG Guide Ty Gimenez aka the wedding officiant.

One trip concludes and another begins… IMG Guide Greg Vernovage just wrapped up another successful Aconcagua trip (100% on top by the way) and will head home on Saturday.

Me,  I’m out the door to lead our Patagonia Trek on Sunday. I did little ‘airport math’, and put it together that I’ll be getting off of the same plane that Greg will be boarding at LAX.

After a handshake and ‘how ya doing’ we’ll be on our respective ways.

Greg, the keys to your truck are at the house. (I could have just emailed him, but this is more fun.)

Rough Seas On Lago Grey

November 9, 2012

Windy conditions have been the norm for Greg & Co. (Tye Chapman)

Greg checked in from Refugio Paine Grande this afternoon after calling a bit of an audible…

The schedule had the team getting on a boat (from Refugio Grey) around noon, but the high winds had stirred up Lago Grey so much that the national park cancelled boat.

What is Plan B you ask? Well, they put their hiking shoes back on and headed over to Refugio Paine Grande – a 4 hour hike – where they jumped aboard the catamaran…The same one they used a couple days ago.  They’re now safely at the van and en route to Puerto Natales where they’ll grab a late dinner.

Tomorrow, they’ll head to Punta Arenas and catch their flights home!
